About Us

Hi there and welcome to Brunei Darussalam Betta Society, or otherwise simply named “BDBS”

As yet we are an unofficial society though we hope to change that by bringing together Bruneians who share our love and passion for bettas.

Bettas are more commonly known as Siamese Fighting Fishes, with their full Latin name “Betta Splendens” Found throughout South East Asia, breeders around the world were intrigued with the beauty and these charismatic fishes and sought to breed them. Through selective breeding, these bettas now come in a gigantic variety of shapes, sizes, colours and even patterns. They range from the hardy plakats, the graceful halfmoons, the powerful giants and of course, the wild bettas themselves. Blue, red, white, yellow, black; the entire spectrum of the rainbow. And that’s not even touching the patterns themselves such as the butterflies, the dragons, the platinums. The combinations seem almost limitless. It is this quality that attracts and captivates us betta lovers.

We acknowledge that here in Brunei, there is only a small handful of people who truly understand and seek to inform the public on the proper care and maintenance to keep these bettas healthy, much less convincing others to try out this hobby. We are also at a disadvantage as it is a major hurdle in sourcing high quality bettas.

However, we here at BDBS believe that by bonding us Bruneians as a group, as a team, we can not only increase our standards, but also that we will be able to achieve international standards. But of course, we will not be able to do this alone. From our friends overseas; at Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand; indeed, from any other countries, we can learn so much from their experiences and their knowledge.

For this, everyone and anyone is welcome to come and join us. We welcome you all with open arms, and from our little finned friends, a lot of happy bubbles.
